FAQ

Here are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about our handmade stained glass pieces, ordering, shipping, and more.

How are Greyhouse Glass suncatchers made?
Every piece is made by hand, one at a time, using the copper foil (Tiffany) method. Each section of glass is individually cut, ground smooth, wrapped in copper foil, and soldered together. There is no mass production involved; it's just one maker in a North Carolina studio doing every step from start to finish.

Will my piece look exactly like the product photo?
Because each suncatcher is cut from individual sheets of glass, slight variations in color, texture, and pattern are normal. No two pieces are exactly alike, and that's part of what makes them genuinely handmade. Your piece will match the overall design and color palette shown, but it will be uniquely yours.

How should I hang my suncatcher?
Stained glass is heavier than plastic or resin imitations, so it needs a secure hanging point. A cup hook screwed into the window frame, a small nail, or a high-strength suction cup rated for the weight of the piece all work well. Avoid lightweight adhesive hooks, as temperature changes can cause them to fail.

Does the solder contain lead, and is it safe to handle?
Traditional stained glass solder does contain lead. The finished piece is safe to display in your home, but we recommend washing your hands after handling it directly. Keep suncatchers out of reach of young children and away from food preparation surfaces.

How do I clean and care for my stained glass piece?
Dust and polish with a soft dry cloth. If necessary, clean with distilled water. Avoid vinegar, abrasive pads, and harsh chemical sprays, as these can damage the glass surface and solder joints.

Can I hang a suncatcher outdoors?
Suncatchers are designed primarily for indoor use. If you'd like to display one outside, choose a well sheltered spot protected from rain, wind, hail, and direct weather exposure. A covered porch or screened patio can work well.

What occasions are stained glass crosses good for as gifts?
Our cross suncatchers are popular keepsake gifts for baptisms, confirmations, housewarmings, bereavements, get-well wishes, and holidays like Easter and Christmas. They're meaningful, lasting, and personal in a way that most store-bought gifts aren't.

Do you offer custom orders?
Yes. Custom orders are available and may include specific color choices or design adjustments. Because custom work requires additional time for design, color selection, and sourcing specialty glass, there may be extra lead time and a custom fee. Contact us to discuss what you have in mind.

What is your shipping policy?
We offer free shipping on all orders. Most pieces ship within 1 to 3 business days. Every suncatcher is carefully packaged to arrive safely at your door.

Do you sell wholesale?
Sure do! Wholesale is available for shops, churches, gift stores, and other retailers. Because everything is handmade, we keep our minimum order quantities flexible and work with you on lead times. Contact us for wholesale pricing and details.
